Preserving Natural Resources through Creative Engineering

Sustainability is the capacity to endure over time. Sustainability has environmental, economic, and social dimensions, and encompasses the concept of stewardship and the responsible management of resource use.

At U.S. Rubber, we know that being an efficient and profitable business and being a good steward of the environment are goals that can work together. Our broad environmental goals at U.S. Rubber are simple and straightforward:

  • To be as energy efficient and frugal as possible;
  • To create zero waste;
  • To sell products that sustain people and the environment.

Californians discard some 40 million tires annually. U.S. Rubber Recycling’s products prevent these tires from going to landfill; the company is the state’s largest user of recycled crumb rubber from tires into a product.

We go to great lengths to ensure the safety of the manufacturing process and of our products. Our products are VOC compliant with the performance standards established for low-emitting flooring under the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) and the LEED Pilot Credit 21: Low-Emitting Interiors programs, the accepted nationwide standard.

Rubber is actually a highly complex chain polymeric compound from which are derived the most sophisticated and highly-engineered materials made by man. Rubber has extreme durability and takes many years to decompose or deteriorate.  While many other products made from metal, glass, and plastic are recycled, rubber, by its nature, lends itself to being the most efficiently recyclable material in high-volume use throughout the world.

U.S. Rubber is and always has been a truly “green” company by using a waste-saving, efficient manufacturing system that produces no air, water, or land pollution. All on-site scrap rubber, trimmings, and rubber dust is vacuumed up and reused. U.S. Rubber utilizes a “sustainability bonus” board, where our employees can suggest productivity or process changes and receive their choice of time off or bonuses if we use their ideas to increase energy efficiency or a more efficient material usage.  Our firm commitment to sustainable values  in our recycled rubber manufacturing system allows us to give a second, productive, high-performance  life to old tires that would otherwise fill our already taxed landfills, waterways, and roadways.
